Nice article, TW, and thanks. What a nice morning read.

My comments now turn to whether or not Cherington is due as much of the stick he gets for being the GM in a "cheap" organization. I like the "shoestrings" analogy because it shows the baby steps that had to be done around the draft so that this new bullpen could be acquired.
I mean, The Mets are sending us $8M AND Weaver? Dang. Talk about turning cheap into an art-form?

I suppose too that this is bracing for the lockout and your appreciation of the overall salary commit for next year is super-relevant. My only hope in the wasteland that will be the lockout is that the game survives in a better way. I'd like Pittsburgh to be able to keep their version of a Sid Crosby or similar franchise player and not just be the farm team for the Yank-offs and Dodgums.

A cap is needed so that the Dodgers can't just have everybody. It's sickening and it's bad for baseball.

I appreciate your thorough review of not only the trades, but the deep dive into the financials.
The Team That Cherington Built just became complete. So This Team will compete, for years.
Enough said. And I'm thankful to finally be supporting a winner
