Tim I hope that you will consider a deep dive into current the Pirates' catching situation. There is a rumor that they are considering one with their first pitch.
I like Davis but am surprised at how the bat has developed. I thought that he might be a Schwarberwith hit > glove. He gets a lot of grief for being 1/1. But if you look at the top ten picks in that draft it validates that there was no clear better choice. Plus BC was able the spread the wealth in that draft. At any rate when Davis and Bart are back they are going to have to choose from a bunch of backups.
MLB Pipeline draft analyst Jonathan Mayo has been the primary predictor linking Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey to the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 5th overall pick per yahoo sports.
Thanks. I haven't been following the draft updates. I knew there was a college catcher, but I didn't know where he was projected to go at this point.
One thing about the catching position: Cherington has spent a bulk of his rebuild focusing on catcher. The #1 pick in 2021. The Musgrove trade that brought Endy. A few other trades for lottery ticket prospects. Bart. Flores. It's not a good thing they still need catching.
They rushed Davis. I think that he had fewer MILB at bats than Will Smith. Plus they did not have a dedicated catching instructor at that time. Davis actually looked like a hitter in his rookie season. Now, I'm not so sure. Hard not to root for the guy. The 1/1 curse is a real thing in Pittsburgh
I know ya hates the lists... but the annual P2 book has to return. Got me through more than a few winter months sitting on the crapper with that sweet baby cradled in my hands...
ok... might have been too much info there...
But the point stands.

Welcome back, Tim. No one knows the Buccos better than you.
Wonderful! I'll be here often

First pick in the draft, not 'pitch' as I wrote above.
I can't find where I read it but apparently there would be interest in the GT catcher if he fell to 5.
Oy!
Site looks good. Fantastic, really.
Now let's get down to cases....
