Pittsburgh Baseball Live is the new project from Tim Williams, owner and creator of PiratesProspects.com.

Pirates Prospects revolutionized the Pittsburgh media scene, becoming the first independent site with MLB credentials in 2012, and being one of the most read Pirates destinations for years.

Pittsburgh Baseball Live aims to discuss more than the minor league system, while also introducing a podcast. One of the key differences between the two sites is the “Live” aspect.

At Pirates Prospects, a lot of work went into creating long-form articles. These features took a lot of time and energy. While the quality of the work was unmatched, the effort to produce these extensive features didn’t often allow for reactionary content.

Pittsburgh Baseball Live will be a reactionary outlet, keeping track of the day-to-day events with the Pittsburgh Pirates. It will not be a “Hot Take” outlet, as there is no long-term benefit to providing these types of disingenuous reactions. There will be no publishing schedule. When there is something to say, it will be published.

One of the main drawbacks of Pirates Prospects was the independent aspect, which included a lot of work behind the scenes to maintain the site. Hosting Pittsburgh Baseball Live on Substack allows me to focus entirely on creating the timely content mentioned above, without the time and energy restrictions from the past.

Pittsburgh Baseball Live, just like Pirates Prospects, is being created with Pirates fans in mind. I do not consider myself a Pirates fan, especially after being credentialed media for over a decade. I do have a great affinity for this franchise and fan base, along with an extensive level of knowledge of the game and business of baseball.

The goal here is to provide perspective for those fans, providing a voice of accountability that goes unmatched in Pittsburgh baseball media.

Why subscribe?

Most of the content on this site will be free, although subscriptions will be essential to support the project. Just like Pirates Prospects, this is a project that is entirely supported by Pirates fans, with no investors or dark money to rely upon.
